 BRAVE Bike Safety and Skills

BRAVE Consults with school and community leadership to determine how to best meet the needs of the children and youth in a school. For example, at Morley School, we will co-present a celebration of the donation of bikes for the school  from PinkBike's Share the Ride.

RedPath Talent’s Marika Sila will give a spectacular performance, alongside Morley School’s talent featuring: Powwow Dancers, The Music Academy and Traditional Drummers.

A special presentation will by given by Angus Cockney, The Icewalker. Angus will share his story of success through adversity, as a residential school survivor of 13 years, and his story of sport, encouraging youth to embrace healthy active living.

Because of skills developed as a cross country skier, Angus excelled and was on the national ski team representing Canada, plus skied to the North Pole on an expedition as photographer. His daughter is Marika Sila with Redpath Talent and his son Jesse is an Olympian.

Redpath Talent and BRAVE Education are providing youth safety and empowerment workshops including prevention of recruitment of sex trafficking of children and youth.

“As a school community, we are beyond excited for the donation of 38 bicycles by Pinkbike, Calgary Cycle and Outside Bike & Ski. Since 2014, the bicycle has been a tool for change within the youth that we work with at Morley Community School. Gaining a fleet of bikes will allow for our programming to have a greater impact across all grades. This donation will help to get our students outside, connected to the land in a completely different way. The possibilities are endless.” – Emily Parkin, Morley Community School

“We are excited about sharing our knowledge with the students and community leaders. I strongly believe this is important information that can protect our future generations from preventable harmful situations. The more people and students who know the signs and how to ask for help, the safer our communities become. This knowledge will only strengthen our communities, as we learn to work as a team and look out for one another. I just want to thank Morley Community School for inviting my Father, Angus Cockney and I to give our hearfelt performances and presentations. We are truly honoured be sharing our art and stories on beautiful Stoney Nakoda Territory. Also, thank you to Kelly Schuler with BRAVE Communications, the Optimists and everyone involved with organizing this event.” - Marika Sila

We are so very grateful to the many community supporters!
